DEAR FRIENDS:

Thank you so much for your ongoing prayer for the ministry of Light To My Path Book Distribution as well as the local ministry the Lord has given us here in Nova Scotia. Let me take a moment to give you a better picture of one of the local ministries we have been involved with here in Cape Breton.

GOOSE COVE BIBLE STUDY
Goose Cove is a small rural community located on the Cabot Trail about forty minutes from Sydney Mines where we live.

The majority of believers in this area attend either the United or the Presbyterian Church neither of which has a full time pastor at present. In recent years, with the planting of a Baptist church in Baddeck, a small number have opted to go there for Sunday worship.

As there are no schools in the area, local children are bused to Baddeck for both elementary and High School. Shopping is also done in Baddeck or in Sydney about an hour and fifteen minutes away. The nearest hospital is also in Baddeck with some cases being sent to Sydney or Halifax about four hours away.

Being on the Cabot Trail, this part of the island is very beautiful with its many coves and hills. Not far away is the Gaelic College which focuses on Scottish culture and heritage. While you can still find some Gaelic speakers and singers in the area, this is becoming more rare.

Unemployment causes many of the youth to leave for other parts of the country. Many in the community are in their senior years but some younger families have been able to make a living using various trades and skills locally.

As a teen I spend three years in a community down the road while my father pastored four small churches in the area. Three out of four of those churches are now closed or in the process of closing. Only one remains.

A small Bible study was started a number of years ago in Goose Cove by some concerned believers who wanted to have a spiritual impact in the region. It was setup as a community Bible study and people from all denominations were invited. I was asked to be involved about three years ago. The Lord has been good and we have enjoyed many good times of fellowship together.

In the past couple of years, the Lord has burdened the heart of a church in South Carolina to send some of there members to help in some outreach into the community. A team from South Carolina has come to the area to help with Vacation Bible Schools for the last two years. They have also joined our Bible study on two separate occasions by Skype.

One of the ladies in the group felt a burden for the children of the region and she and Diane have been holding a weekly children's club for some of the children who attended VBC in the summer. While there are not a lot of children coming to this club, these two ladies have faithful gathered them each week to teach them the Word of God.

In recent months a Baptist church in another part of the island has been involved in some evangelistic meetings at a local hall. This year there will also be a special Christmas meal sponsored by local believers as an outreach into the community.

It has been our privilege to be involved in a small way in what the Lord has been doing in this part of Cape Breton. We are trusting that the seeds that are being planted in this small community will bring forth fruit in the years to come.

HOW TO PRAY THIS MONTH:
Praise:
* Praise the Lord for the ten to fifteen believers who gather each week in Goose Cove to study the Scriptures and pray for the community.

* The Lord has not forgotten this part of the island and has brought brothers and sisters from other parts to minister to them and share the love of Christ.

Prayer:
* For a breaking down of strong denominationalism that keeps people from hearing and accepting the gospel.

* For a revival of interest in spiritual things in Goose Cove and that the evangelistic efforts being made now in this community would bring forth fruit.
